Japan Govt welcomes lifting of PER

The Japanese Government has welcomed the decision made by Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to lift the Public Emergency Regulation this Saturday.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan it said that with the PER coming to an end this weekend and the consultation of the new constitution starting next month, the international community should value these measures as a positive step forward.

Japan sincerely hopes that Fiji will continue to take concrete action towards free and fair election in 2014 and it intends to maintain close dialogue with the Fijian authorities as it is ready to provide necessary support.
