Low and middle income earners will be able to improve their livelihoods once the Raiwai Rental Housing Project is completed.

The assurance was made by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday morning during the ground breaking ceremony of the development at Nairai Road in Raiwai outside Suva.
“Access to housing is one such right which my Government is firmly committed to,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
Yesterday’s ceremony, said Commodore Bainimarama, marked the commitment of his Government to ensuring a basic human right which contributed to creating a truly democratic and just Fiji.
The construction of the 208 units, made up of 118 one bedroom units and 90 two bedroom units together with other amenities like a community hall, multi-purpose court and covered walk-ways will provide for a modern community development.
Commodore Bainimarama said the development would allow low income earners to progress to home ownership.
“Home ownership is essential not just to provide security for the individual owners but it lends to self-dignity, pride and also ensures national savings and economic development,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
The $20 million project is the latest development undertaken by the Public Rental Board and will be constructed by China Railway First Group Company Limited.
The construction of 13 blocks, which will house 208 newly built units, is expected to be completed by 2013.
