Lighting for Our Younger and Future Generation

“Let there be light” - Lighting up rural communities

More than 1000 students from seven schools in the Waidina District will have the best access to education following the commissioning of a $2.4million rural electrification project today.

The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama commissioned the project, which will also benefit more than 800 homes in the district.

“Ladies and gentlemen , the children of Fiji are our future. We must, therefore create and provide the best access to education for them. With electricity, it means that these children will be able to access the internet and other modern tools of education,” Commodore Bainimarama said.

He urged villagers to improve the quality of life.

With a better educated, smarter and enlightened Fiji, the prospects for students in the district looks promising and complements initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Education.

Addressing villagers, settlers and guests at Nabukaluka Village to witness the occasion, Commodore Bainimarama said children from schools would benefit directly.

The Prime Minister highlighted advantages the project would now bring towards the growth of education in the district.

The development is in union with Government’s commitment to Pillar 7 of the Peoples’ Charter for Change, Progress and Progress which is: Developing an integrated development structure at divisional Level.

The aim of this pillar is to expand to the most remote parts of rural areas.

Government has so far spent $5m upgrading infrastructure in the Naitasiri Province, working on roads and water and rural electrification.

Now villagers of Delaiviwa, Delaiwaimale, Nukuloa, Vunidawa, Natoaika and Deladamanu will get light and electrical power 24/7 at their fingertips.

“These and other projects demonstrate my government’s commitment to rapid infrastructure development,” Commodore Bainimarama said.

The Prime Minister urged villagers to take advantage of the of the development projects and use the new infrastructure to improve their quality of life.

There are other rural electrification projects taking place in other parts of Fiji and will be completed at the year end.

These include Rokoroko area in Rakiraki, Malomalo to Naidiri in Sigatoka, the Tokaimalo District in Nadroga, Nacovi in Nadi, Bulabula in Ba and Vunaqoro in Sigatoka.
