No fuel surcharge: FEA

Friday, August 19, 2011
The Fiji Electricity Authority has decided to absorb the fuel price hike in effect for the past few weeks so as not to burden consumers.
Chief Executive, Hasmukh Patel says the recent decision of the Commerce Commission has also had an effect on their financial position.

However the Authority will not seek a fuel surcharge.
He says for now, they are keeping a close eye on fuel price fluctuations.

“Fuel prices have gone above what we had budgeted for but we have contained the fuel price. At this stage. We do not foresee a fuel surcharge, but time will tell. We are running a lot of diesel because we are in the dry season and we are minimising hydro for the next 3 months.”

The FEA has an agreement that should fuel prices reach a peak it can apply to the Commerce Commission to implement a surcharge on consumers.
